Quint’s Story

“My choir teacher and pole vault coach in high school both went to Doane and encouraged me to come here. They shared that the small community and connections would be important for me in college. As I came to campus to audition for scholarships, the relationship between Kurt Runstead and Rob McKercher was so honest and caring that it was highly encouraging to see such talented colleagues care so deeply for one another and the student experience.

The sense of community. Doane community members see themselves as part of something bigger than themselves. Specifically, students see their experience at Doane as a part of a community more than just an individual experience. We also provide many opportunities for students to involve themselves in the community, and our offices depend on them to take on real significant responsibility to make the experience we want here at Doane.

As a student, I was involved in the Hansen Leadership Program – Directions Cohort, New Student Orientation, Doane Rugby, Theater, Choir, Hour of Power, KDNE Radio, CRU, and WACO.

The Doane community gave me a lot as a student and now as a staff member. Giving is a simple way to give back to the place that gave so much. The educational experience we create at Doane is deeply needed in our world today, and giving to Doane allows that experience to continue. We need the leaders we are building at Doane in our world to make a difference in their families, workplaces, and communities.

As an employee of my alma mater, I care deeply for my students and their growth, and my role on campus encourages me to consider how students can be better versions of themselves. Donations allow us to continue to expand our support and services, inspiring me each day to put in my best with my students so they continue to grow.

The Board of Trustees recently decided to tear down the quads and build Brodie Hall. This was long overdue, and I appreciate your courage in making that decision. The same thing can be said for the new Performing Arts Center. Making improvements to our facilities is a massive way in which donors can profoundly impact the Doane experience. Gifts to the campaign, in general, are essential as we continue to impact the student experience and set our students up for success in the next development phase. Doane has a tradition of developing great students who become great family members, employees, and community members. To continue that tradition in a competitive market for new students, we need donor support more than ever.”
