Doane alumni Caitie Leibman ’11 and Billy Garver ’11 have long believed in the power of a Doane education. Inspired by the opportunities and mentorship they received as students, the two have come together to establish two endowed funds that will support future generations of Tigers in meaningful, lasting ways.
Their gift includes the creation of the Forensics Endowed Support Fund (FES) and the HART Fund (Hands-on Analysis of Real Topics). Both funds reflect a personal area of impact from their time at Doane.
Caitie’s experience as a forensics competitor was a defining part of her college years—shaping her confidence, communication skills, and community. The FES Fund will ensure that students in Doane’s Forensics program continue to have access to resources for travel, competition, coaching, and growth, regardless of financial barriers.
Billy’s academic path was deeply influenced by Peggy Hart, whose mentorship helped shape his passion for analytical thinking and problem-solving. The HART Fund, named in her honor, will support undergraduate research in mathematics and data analytics, providing students with hands-on summer research opportunities and access to experiences that prepare them for graduate study or careers in data-driven fields.
Their decision to give now was rooted in a shared belief that impact doesn’t have to wait. As Caitie put it, they asked themselves, “Why not now?” That simple but powerful question led them to act—allowing them to see the results of their generosity while helping today’s students benefit from the same kinds of opportunities they once had.
Through these two funds, Caitie and Billy are honoring the programs and people who shaped them—and investing in a Doane future they believe in.
