“The campus visit sealed the deal for me as a student: every person I interacted with was lit up about what they were doing, whether it was an activity, a staff office, or an academic department. I knew the special programs would make a difference for me, like research, internship, and study abroad opportunities.
As a student, I was involved in the Writing Center, Forensics Team, Phonathon caller, and worked as an Admissions Ambassador.
Doane is truly unique. In my mind, Doane’s class sizes, beautiful campus, and strong academic reputation can’t be beat!
My time working at Doane was so special. It felt like a privilege to meet students wherever they were, at any level of experience, no matter their interests. Those interactions in the office, classroom, and hallway were always the best part of the job.
My philosophy as a donor is: Why not? And why not now? We (my husband Billy Garver ’11 and I) are donors because we want to connect our money to our real life, making an impact where we can, when we can. We don’t want to wait for some special occasion to start making a difference. Life is a special occasion. Today is always a great day to start.
I do love the spirit of paying it forward. The older I get, the more grateful I am for the opportunities I received as a student. Those who came before me helped pave the way to make it easier for me: it’s my turn to step up. The world needs more thoughtful and creative Tigers than ever before. I want to show up for them through the Our Time to Lead campaign.”
